This OB call thing sure is tough......talk about labor !
The day starts with Alex and his cousin George joining some of the regulars on the Hat Time for a little morning fishing action. We buy a few dozen from Frank and then
make a couple of our regular stops on the way to blue water. Initially the fish are not cooperating but Alex has come out to catch fish and catch fish he will. We find some
interesting bottom east of the Diamonds in about 150. At this point I think Alex actually makes something happen using some bottom scratching rigs. First one then two
Almaco jacks and Alex is warmed up and turns the rig over to George.
Fast forward a little and we're still off the Diamonds kicking it in and out of gear. We have 2 pilchards out of the riggers and one 60 feet down on a break-away egg
sinker. The deep rod sings out and it's Alex's shot at a Miami sail....on a 20lb test spinner. The fish performed some tailwalking acrobatics and from our first glimpse it
looked like an averge size fish. The sail then started to blaze due south in a big hurry.
By the time we had the lines cleared, it became apparent that there was nothing average about this fish. As a matter of fact, we had to lean on the reverse gear to keep it
from dumping our reel. At one point it looked as if the fish was trying to take refuge in and around the kite baits of another boat. Fortunately, this did not happen.
As the fight wound down Jimmy got on the dive platform and grabbed the bill while Claus hung on to Jimmy!! Yee Ha !! Another great chapter is closed, and all that is left
are some great memories, a first sailfish for Alex and more work for Jimmy and his smoker.
