Dances With Cobia
Hat Time
October 26, 2007
Greg, Heidi, Jimmy Alex and George braved the elements to capture Cobia, Kingfish and Mutton Snapper. The day was rainy with wind
from the west but supposed to be switching to the North. Time out was about 12:30 about 2 hours before low tide. Topped off the bait
well courtesy of Frank with small pilchards and some blue runners. Out to the Dade County wrecks with surface, medium and deep baits.
The deep baits got all the action. First drift with a dbl of undersize cobia, followed by a kingfish, and a nice 30# cobia with Alex on the
reel. We noted that as the dead low tide occurred the bite shut down and then picked up again when the tide started to run again (Note
to self). Also captured a keeper Mutton. Several cutoffs, pulloffs, lead weight donations and back to the dock by 5:30pm. On the way
back, played chicken with a cruise ship when it loomed out of the rain and mist while in the Cut. A Coast Guard chase boat waved us off
to the North Jetty(M60 mounted on the front of the CG RIB). We complied. Another note to self...must buy RADAR ! Boat show tomorrow,
yeah.
